I've been having a problem with writing to flash drives on my Debian box at home. This evening I was yet again trying to write to a flash drive, and I couldn't figure it out. I looked on a number of forums and other places, and most people seemed to be talking about usbmount and most posts were from a few years ago. None of their solutions helped me.
Thankfully, I came across a different solution hidden away on SuperUser. You need to remove the following line from your fstab file:
/dev/sdb1 /media/usb0 auto rw,user,noauto 0 0
As soon as I did that and plugged my flash drive in again, voila! It worked.
